The Arctic Aromas Community nominated nettle the natural herb of the year in 2018. Nettle is one of the best herbs, but still far too little used compared to eg. spinach. Nettle contains loads of minerals, for example calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and phosphorus. Nettle is a natural herb, rich in minerals, vitamins and polyphenols. It is a perennial herb that grows widely throughout the country.
Nettle produces its inflammatory effect on skin (stinging, burning sensation often called "contact urticaria") both by impaling the skin via spicules – causing mechanical irritation – and by biochemical irritants, such as histamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine, among other chemicals. This effect can still create itching when the leaves have been dried.
