What Was IBM’s OS/2, and Why Did It Lose to Windows?

That's funny.

OS/2 never lost to Windows.

Why?

Because OS/2 is Windows.

More precisely, back in the 1980s, OS/2 was jointly developed by both IBM and Microsoft . . . until Microsoft decided to go its own way and launch Windows NT.

What people refer to as Windows today is only superficially related to the "Windows" of the 1980s and 1990s; it's actually a descendant of that first version of Windows NT released in 1993, which in itself is arguably a descendant of OS/2.
